What's the point?

What is the point in having a blog? No one reads anything, No one cared to look at the page.
So maybe I should just get rid of the account.

Should I change it to be more personal? Obviously not.

So Many New Ideas

I have learned so much within the last 4 days, its amazing! I can't remember the last time I attended a class or workshop where I learned so much in a short time. So many new doors have opened. So many new ideas are flowing. Now I'm thinking "I should have taken this class earlier in the summer!" This class is definitely "The Gateway to Technology"!

Greeting Blogs

What type of communication tool would I consider using with parents and students?

Other than email, Instant Messaging or Facebook, I would love to use blogging and Skype. I figure blogging can be a great way to give an overview of the lessons taught in class daily and a list of assignments or reminders. Skype can be a great form of communication with parents and students. We can still have a face to face conference and real time conversation. Of course, not all parents/students will have access to a computer or internet, but it will help those who do have the resources.

Communication

thank you for the invite. I will try to use this to communicate with parents and teachers.

Exciting Year!

As the new school year begins, some ideas that I have for engaging my students are to use Khan Academy as well as PowerPoint presentations to aid in teaching math. The animations will capture the students' attention, as well as allows students to review the lesson as many times as needed. most teachers have atleast one computer in their classroom, so using the computer provides more expose into various web sites/blogs, especially for those who have not access to a computer.

Building a Class Website - A class Communication tool for parents

We all know that communication is key with parents to a successful educational partnership.
As we are getting further in technological advances, creating a class website where parents can view all information pertinent to your class. Class calendars, upcoming class assignments, post concerns and/or questions.

Terry's Blog Assignment

As the beginning of the school year approaches i have been wondering how would that be a better way to communicate to parents and students. thanks i could use this..

Technology Communication use SY 11-12

With the continual drive to "go green" and use technology more often there are several communication tools that I am considering using with my parents as well as my students.

For parents, I have used texting and emailing. I do however will like to start possibly using skype for more personal communicaion and google docs to share class information as a whole. I also think that starting a blog of our class activities is something I would like to start as well.

For my students, I have learned that they know about e-mail. That is one communication tool to use with them. It will allow for practice of spelling words, computer skills, and of course use of technology. A blog will be considered to use too so that they may comment on certain topics they learned and activities they liked or disliked.

How can you use these communication tools in various
teaching situations?

blog to a student who was having a problem

You can see a great vidio presented by Bill Gates at the web page below:

Also there is a lot of information available online for you to use to help you learn how to solve problems.

Excited for a New School Year

This year, a group of new students will enter the classroom and I am extremely excited to meet them. I started to plan in my mind all the wonderful things I want to teach, how to organize my classroom, and the fun events that will take place throughout the year. I have not yet started to set up my classroom because I am taking a course in technology and learning new things. I can't wait to start using a blog to communicate with my parents. I also want to try and use pod casts to help students understand the different concepts we teach.

On Board with Blogging

How cool is this? I feel so "in" with technology. YAY!!! I do still have a lot to learn and practice is what I must do.

Video Chats would work great for parent/student meetings in which physical presence may not be possible. This would really help with cancellations and rescheduling of many, many meetings and optimize our time.

communication tools

Honestly, I'm not tech savvy. If I were, I would email to communicate with my students and with parents.

I would use the internet to get a video lesson as a teaching tool. Especially, for those students who are auditory and visual learners who can understand the lesson earlier.

I will try to incorporate what I've learned from this class if the department doesn't restrict us from using certain website.

TOOLS for communicating to parents

Now that I have an ipad, I might communicate through Facetime. Also, facebook is another option.
Parents unable to meet with me or students that are absent due to illness as well as immediate need for responses regarding homework are various ways in teaching situations.

Exploring the Khan Academy

Q#3. For the new school year, I'd like to have my students engage with Khan Academy maining to expose them with various skills available and in dealing with Language Arts and Foreign Language Instruction. Also, this will help me create lesson plans that I can access during instructional time.

Communication Tool

Right now my sons use computer technology in their classes in DODEA.  My incoming 3rd grader loves to go to razzkids.com for reading.  I will definitely use the khanacademy for my sons (3rd & 10th) and students if possible.  But not all students have computers at home or they are not allowed to use the computer unless they are older.
I would need to talk to my parents and give them the tools I have learned here in class.  This helps us to go green.  We must use a paperless trail.

Gateway to Technology Module 3 assignment

The tools I use to communicate to students is handwritten notes or talking to them directly. The tools that I use to communicate to parents is the student's planner or a phone call. The tools I use to communicate to other teachers or professionals is texting, phone call, email, written notes.

I would consider "b" Skype or Gmail Video Chat.

Communication tool

The communication tool I would use with my parents is email. As for my students, who are in 2nd grade I would probably start off with email. My niece who is 7 years old loves to text on her mom's phone and now has an email account. She loves to send emails. I always reply to her emails because it helps her in her writing and spelling skills. The only drawback is she expects a reply instantly.

THE TYPE OF COMMUNICATION TOOL I WOULD USE IS...

The type of communication tool I would use is a blog. I can provide parents with information on what the class is covering for that particular day or week. I can provide students with their daily/weekly assignments. I can keep in contact with parents and students (especially the ones who need to catch up or is absent).

Communication with parents

I have been considering setting up a group on facebook exclusively for students and parents for this school year. I see many parents that are on so I think they would be receptive. On this site, I could post parent notes, reminders things that I would normally put on my newsletter. Now I am considering having a blog instead. However, a possible obstacle is parents are not as familiar with blogging.

Just wanted to remind myself where I came from (ancient times) and how we have have changed with the use of technology.

Tech Class

Hi...we're on Module 3 of the tech class and so far I've learned many new things. Can't wait to learn more...

Fun Technology Class

Hafa Adai!
It is great to be refeshing some tech skills while learning others. Is everyone having fun?

Communication with technology

Email
-Parents and students can view comments or letters easily through emails.
-They can respond or communicate with me right way if they need to.
-Cellphones these days can now be connected through the internet, so it is faster to
receive emails.

TOOLS Used to Communicate with Parents and Students

Telephone:
I will use this tool to communicate first because I am sure that not everyone in the class will have the high tech tools.

Internet to communicate with parents:
Emailing newsletters, forms needed for parents to sign, grades, progress reports, and other information regarding the student, classroom, and school

Internet for students:
-Allow students to use the internet to play games for tutorial and for reinforcement on what was learned in class.
-Do research and projects

First Post and Intro Video

What type of communication tool would you consider using with parents and with students?

Of course there are very busy parents, but if parents are unable to make it a parent-teacher conference, they can perhaps use their smart-phone Skype applications to make a web-conference with you. I know one teacher who used MSN messenger to tutor a student on Saturdays.

How can you use these communication tools in various teaching situations?

After reading the page of "50 Awesome Ways to Use Skype in the Classroom" I'm eager to have someone guide students through a virtual field-trip or an area that they may not have access to (for budget or disciplinary or any other reasons) and get students excited about a place or to orient students with a place they may visit and are unfamiliar with.

As the new school year begins, what ideas do you have for engaging your students with technology this school year? What can we do with what we already have?

Skype and other online communication devices are perfect ways for both parents and students to trade information in a safe and effective way. The teachers, students, and parents can use these tools when time and opportunity to meet face-to-face are not convenient or possible. I'd use Skype or even a facebook chat item with my students who need help with homework before class, or to talk to parents about their child's progress in class (if they'd like to see "evidence" then a video recording device is perfect to show parents their child's "product").

Cheers! Hope my video works.Fi

Dym's Pic

Okay, so I had the hard time in class doing today's module. Anyhow... I am back at home and doing my work. I will submit this picture and one day capture an avatar.
Whew! Finally got in! I like technology but it is difficult if you are a digital immigrant. Enjoying the class. I do see the relevance and the importance of integrating technology in the classroom.
Our students are way ahead of us and here we are playing catch up.
I want to learn more about blogging but I am not good at it yet. I will try to do my best in staying interested in blogging. My daughter loves to blog. One day I will be able to blog with her. She lives in the beautiful State of Hawaii.
